The Staches Heard Round the World

On May 23, 2009 the World Beard and Moustache Championships are happening. Basically a bunch of old and young guys from all over the world meet up, twist their Staches in fancy ways, and march around hoping to be the chosen ones. It's in Anchorage, Alaska this year which, apparently, is a big deal because this marks the second time the championships have been in the U.S. in the championships ENTIRE history!! With that said, it is worth it to at least visit the championship site to check out the crazy Staches some past contestants have had.

Like this guy who is a former self-proclaimed "Pizza Delivery Professional" (aka delivery boy) named Burke Kenny who won in 2007 in one category.

There's a fee to enter or attend and you have to pay for travel arrangements, but hey! you get to be in the presence of "the world's bearded and moustached elite!" As far as I can see on the Web site, the winners only get an award and not a prize making Alaska a pretty far commute for a trophy. But then I thought: Being known as the guy with the sweetest Stache in the world is priceless and you can't put that in a box and wrap it. The legend of the winner's upper-lip hair will live on forever.
